Your gift at this time helps build new programs for children!

In the next six months, your gift can help cover the cost of training 40 staff members from 20 different human services agencies across the greater New Haven area to lead Motheread®/Fatheread® classes with parents whose current ability to read may be low, but whose desire to be their child's first teacher couldn't be higher. With your help, we'll have reached more than 600 mothers and fathers and 1,000 pre-school children by this time next year.

You can help expand our award-winning Book Voyagers children's reading initiative from its home base in public libraries to after-school programs that serve urban elementary school students. Five Hartford schools are now testing our curriculum units with 3 rd and 4 th graders who are struggling with crucial reading comprehension skills measured on the Connecticut Mastery Test. With a strong test run, this program could become a significant resource for elementary reading instructors in school systems across the entire state.

On the history front, we're focusing on expanding classroom resources on Connecticut's rich heritage—with a dramatic expansion of our Online Encyclopedia of Connecticut History, already one of the most unique Web-based learning tools in the nation, going into high gear this year. With your help, we'll significantly expand and update the encyclopedia to ensure our students have a truly comprehensive collection of essays and entries on major events and personalities from our past. Your help on that front will give Connecticut citizens and students one of the most complete on-line guides to its own past available in any state.
