$4,953 to Connecticut River Museum for Planning a New "River Connections"

The Connecticut River Museum received $4,953 in CHDF planning support to hire consultants who will help the museum develop a long-term comprehensive exhibition on the Connecticut River.

Hamden

$2,499 to Connecticut League of History Organizations for "Let's Be Friends: Building Relationships in the History Community" CLHO Annual Meeting

The Connecticut League of History Organizations received $2,499 to host its annual conference in New London, which is attended by representatives of (museums and historical societies, teachers, tourism officials and others engaged in the presentation of Connecticut History to the public.

$16,237 to Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation for Historic Barns of Connecticut

The Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation will use this $16,237 CHDF planning grant to continue documenting significant barns in Connecticut in conjunction with the Council's state tour of the Smithsonian Institution's Barn Again! exhibition. Findings from the study as well as additional barn resources will be published on the Internet at www.connecticutbarns.org. The grant follows a $5,000 technical assistance grant awarded last summer.

Hartford

$4,000 to Antiquarian and Landmarks Society for Celebrating A Birth of a Hero-Nathan Hale's 250th Birthday Celebration & Revolutionary War Film Series

The Antiquarian and Landmarks Society, which maintains the historic Hale Homestead in Coventry, received $4,000 in CHDF support to organize a series of summer programs that celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of Connecticut State hero Nathan Hale.

Kent

$5,223 to Kent Historical Society for Barn Again! Projects and Exhibit

The Kent Historical Society received $5,223 in CHDF support to host public programs relating to the summer tour of the Smithsonian Institution's Barn Again exhibition at the society. The Connecticut tour of Barn Again is sponsored by the Connecticut Humanities Council.

Madison

$25,240 to Deacon John Grave, Inc. for Making Ends Meet: Financing Everyday Life for a Madison Family, 1685-1865

The Deacon John Grave Foundation in Madison received $25,240 in CHDF implementation support to install an exhibition focusing on several generations of the Grave family as an illustration of a microcosm of early New England economy. This grant follows a $5,000 planning grant.

New Britain

$4,000 to Association for the Study of Connecticut History for Journal Publication, Connecticut History

The Association for the Study of Connecticut History received a $4,000 CHDF grant to publish its upcoming issue of Connecticut History, the state's only professional journal on Connecticut History.

$2,500 to New Britain Museum of American Art for Charles B. Ferguson distinguished Lecture Series

The New Britain Museum of American Art was awarded $2,500 in CHDF support to host a lecture series in conjunction with the museum's exhibition For Spacious Skies: The Collection of Henry and Sharon Martin.

New Haven

$2,415 to Greater New Haven African American Historical Society for "Lifetime Contributions" Awards Event

The Greater New Haven African American Historical Society received $2415 in CHDF funding to host Dr. Terrance Roberts as the keynote speaker for the society's second annual awards ceremony.

Putnam

$1,000 to Town of Putnam for Revolutionary War Reenactment - Town of Putnam's Sesquicentennial Celebration

With $1,000 in CHDF funds, the Town of Putnam will host a Revolutionary War reenactment in celebration of the town's 150th anniversary.

Sharon

$4,985 to Sharon Historical Society for Visions of Iron

The Sharon Historical Society was awarded $4,985 conduct pre-production research and on-camera interviews with historian and educator Ed Kirby for a 20-minute documentary on the history of the iron industry in northwest Connecticut, based on the historian's CHC-funded book, Echoes of Iron in Connecticut's Northwest Corner.

Suffield

$3,560 to Suffield Historical Society for Strategic Planning

The Suffield Historical Society received $3,560 in CHDF Professional Development support to engage two consultants to help the society's board develop a long-term strategic plan.

Torrington

$12,664 to Torrington Historical Society, Inc. for Black Friday: The Flood of 1955

The Torrington Historical Society received $12,664 in CHDF Implementation support to mount an exhibition commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the flood of 1955, which devastated the Naugatuck Valley and changed Torrington's cityscape forever.

West Hartford

$11,707 to Noah Webster Foundation for Bristow and the African-American Experience

With a $11,707 Cultural Heritage Development Fund grant, The Noah Webster House will plan a series of programs and projects to better explore and commemorate the African American experience in West Hartford, which includes an investigation into the life of Bristow, an enslaved African that bought his freedom from the Thomas Hooker family. The project is timed to coincide with the opening of West Hartford's new middle school named after this West Hartford historical figure.

Wethersfield

$12,396 to Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum for Rochambeau & Revolutionary Connecticut: 225 Years of Franco-American Relations

The Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum in Wethersfield will use $12,396 in CHDF support to engage consultants to help plan the first scholarly conference on Franco American relations in the recent past, and to develop interpretative strategies for their National Historic Landmark properties. Both the symposium and the new interpretation will be part of the statewide commemoration of the 225th anniversary of the French march across Connecticut in 1781 and the American victory at Yorktown.

$2,901 to Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum for Preparing for the Future: Interim Interpretive Planning for the 1752 Joseph Webb House

The Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum in Wethersfield was awarded $2,901 in CHDF support to hire a consultant to plan interim interpretative strategies for the 1792 Webb House as the museum undertakes a six month project to restore and refurbish the historic home.
