Fairfield Historical Society $10,000 Planning the Move of Museum and Library Collections With plans underway to begin construction of a new Fairfield Museum and History Center in early 2006, the Fairfield Historical Society received a $10,000 technical assistance grant to help plan and execute the move of museum and library collections to the new building, slated for completion in early 2007.

Connecticut League of History Organizations $10,874 On Location: Collections Care in Context The Connecticut League of History Organizations, a professional organization that supports Connecticut's museum community, received a $10,874 CHDF Professional Development grant to organize and host a three-part series of technical assistance workshops focusing on collections care along with four companion articles to be published in the League's professional bulletin. The grant also supports enhancements to the League's Internet presence.
Hartford
Antiquarian and Landmarks Society $4,750 A&L's 9th Annual Collectors & Explorers Series: Excellence in Excess The Antiquarian and Landmarks Society received a $5,000 CHDF grant to organize and promote its annual Connecticut Collectors and Explorers Series. This year's series looks at aspects of the Victorian Era and complements fall programming on the same theme. The program features five public lectures conducted at four locations across the state.
J. E. Rogers African American Center $2,000 Community/Student Forum on the Voting Rights Act of 1965 The John E. Rogers African American Center in Hartford received $2,000 to conduct a half day conference on the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Jonathan Trumbull Jr., House $4,000 Collection Assessment The CT Daughters of the American Revolution was awarded a $4,000 CHDF grant to engage a curatorial consultant to assess and make collections management recommendations for the DAR's Jonathan Trumbull House in Lebanon.
Middletown
Wesleyan University $5,000 "Ives and Religion" - A Pilot Presentation at the Florence Griswold Museum Wesleyan University was awarded $5,250 in CHDF support to plan and conduct a program of lecture, vocal performance and audience discussion titled "Ives and Religion," an exploration of the religious symbolism of Connecticut composer Charles Ives.
New Britain
Association for the Study of Connecticut History $1,000 Bibliographic and Curriculum Unit on African Americans in Connecticut The Association for the Study of Connecticut History was awarded a $1,000 grant to create a curriculum guide on the African American Experience in Connecticut for use in schools. Association for the Study of Connecticut History $4,816 Journal Publication, Connecticut History The Association for the Study of Connecticut History received a $4,815 CHDF Professional Development grant to publish its upcoming issue of Connecticut History, the state's only scholarly academic journal devoted to the study of Connecticut history.
New Britain Museum of American Art $4,700 What's American In American Art? - humanities outreach pilot The New Britain Museum of American Art was awarded $4,700 in CHDF support to create a humanities-based interpretation plan for the museum's permanent collection as part of its current facilities expansion project.
New Haven Peabody Museum of Natural History $4,000 Martin Luther King, Jr. Festival 2006 at the Yale Peabody Museum Yale University's Peabody Museum of Natural History received $4,000 to organize and host a weekend event celebrating Martin Luther King's legacy.
New London
Lyman Allyn Art Museum $16,159 At Home and Abroad: The Transcendental Landscapes of Christopher Pearse Cranch The Lyman Allyn Art Museum in New London received $16,159 in CHDF planning support to research, script and design an exhibition, catalogue and public programming on American artist and Transcendentalist Christopher Pearse Cranch. The show is slated to open in New London in November of 2007 before traveling to Concord, Massachusetts and other New England or New York venues.

Governor Samuel Huntington Trust, Inc. $1,050 Governor Samuel Huntington Trust/Needs Assessment Report The Governor Samuel Huntington Trust will use a $1,050 technical assistance grant to engage a consultant to assess the Trust's current organizational capacities and recommend a list of strategies and action steps that will help the group move forward. Stamford
Stamford Historical Society $4,402 Immigrants' Stamford: The Development of a Multiethnic Multicultural Community 1850-1950 The Stamford Historical Society received $4,652 in CHDF support to plan an exhibition and attendant programming for school children titled "Immigrant's Stamford," an exploration of the history of the diverse communities that make up the city's population.
West Hartford
Noah Webster House $11,955 Bristow: Fitting the Pieces of an African American Life Together The Noah Webster House was awarded a $11,955 Cultural Heritage Development Fund grant to install a new exhibition and conduct attendant programs that explore and commemorate the African American experience in West Hartford. The programs focus on the life of Bristow, an enslaved African who bought his freedom from the Thomas Hooker family. The project is timed to coincide with West Hartford's new middle school named after this local resident. The CHC also provided an $11,707 planning grant for the project.
Wethersfield
Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum $18,472 Rochambeau & Revolutionary Connecticut: 225 Years of Franco-American Relations The Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum in Wethersfield received $18,472 in CHDF support to host a two-day, statewide history symposium on the 225th anniversary of the Yorktown Campaign and the French march across Connecticut. The symposium, scheduled for May 12 and 13, 2006, and will be held at Central Connecticut State University. In addition, Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum will use CHDF funding to expand its new website, www.revolutionaryCT.org, and launch a special thematic tour experience for its properties, called "Revolutionary Homefront." These activities coincide with the statewide commemoration of Connecticut's role in our nation's fight for independence. The CHC previously provided a $12,396 planning grant for the program. |
